Loose Powder vs Pressed Powder, Which is Better for Oily Skin?

Powder, both loose and compact, is a product made with the aim of changing the appearance of facial skin. Powder works by giving a more even color to the skin and can sometimes have a shiny effect.

Powder can also help disguise facial skin problems such as acne and oiliness. But between the loose powder and the compact powder, which one is better for oily skin?

Loose powder vs compact powder, which one is good for oily skin?

Many people with oily skin have a hard time choosing the right makeup product for their skin. Excess oil production makes the makeup wear off faster so they have to do a touch up every few hours.

Makeup mixed with oil on the skin also often shows different colors in several parts of the face, this is of course often considered to interfere with appearance. As a result, many people with oily skin are reluctant to use makeup.

In fact, having a long lasting makeup is not impossible . The key is to choose the right products. One of them is in choosing the powder that will be applied to the face.

The choice of powder used certainly has a big role in giving the perfect facial makeup look. There are two types of powder, namely solid powder and loose powder.

Pressed powder is usually used to lock in previously used liquid foundations or concealers to make them more durable. Compact powder can also be mixed with liquid foundation to produce a more even skin tone.

Similar to compact powder, loose powder is also used to adjust foundation . Sometimes, powder is applied when you want to define the contour lines on the face. Usually, the powder is applied using the baking method which aims to make the makeup look more natural.

Both of which aim to hold the foundation, both types of powder are equally good at providing a flawless finish. However, those of you who have oily skin may find it more suitable to use loose powder.

The reason is, loose powder has a smoother texture than compact powder. Loose powder works better at absorbing oil on the face so that it can blend more easily with wrinkles and lines on the face.

Meanwhile, compact powder has more oil contained in it. However, compact powder can do a better job of hiding blemishes and also help achieve an even skin tone.

Another way to control oil production in the skin

Loose powder is indeed a solution for those of you who have oily skin. Unfortunately, talcum powder also has some side effects if used too often.

Loose powders, especially those containing corn or rice flour, are very dry. Especially for those of you who have combination skin types, loose powder can make your skin even drier.

Apart from that, loose powders also have a tendency to absorb all natural oils from the face. Long-term use of loose powders can cause a lack of sebum production, which interferes with collagen production.

Instead of depending on loose powder, if you want to reduce the oil content on your face, then do the following habits:

  • Wash your face twice a day, especially after traveling or using makeup.
  • Avoid face wash products that contain detergents because they can increase oil production. Better to choose light ingredients such as glycerin.
  • Avoid products that are oil or alcohol based, as they can irritate them.
  • Use a moisturizer to keep skin hydrated. Also use sunscreen every time you travel with a minimum of SPF 30.
  • Choose a water-based make-up product.
  • Use oil absorbing paper. The trick, gently press the paper on the oily face area, leave it for a few seconds to absorb the oil. Don’t rub it all over your face, as this will spread the oil to other areas .
  • Avoid touching your face with dirty hands.
